Benefits & Coverage

Psychological services are often covered in whole or in part under extended health benefits through an employer. Coverage varies depending on your specific plan and insurer, so it's worth checking your plan details before we begin.

Direct Billing: I offer direct billing for Sun Life, and through TELUS eClaims for select insurers including Green Shield, Canada Life, and Empire Life. Please check with your insurance provider to confirm your plan's eligibility. Note that direct billing covers whatever your plan allows. If your plan only covers a portion of the fee or you've reached your annual maximum, you'll be responsible for the remaining balance at the time of your session.

Payment: If direct billing isn't available for your plan, payment is due after each session by credit card, and a receipt will be provided for you to submit to your insurer for reimbursement.

OAP Funding: Services may also be eligible for coverage under the Ontario Autism Program (OAP).

Location

Psychological services including psychotherapy, counselling, and components of psychological assessment services can be provided virtually through a secure platform to residents across Ontario.

In-person appointments for therapy and assessment are based out of a dedicated in-person office space at 213 Horseshoe Valley Road, East, Oro-Medonte, Ontario. This is a countryside professional office building close to neighbouring towns of Barrie, Orillia, Severn, and Midland.

The office is located on the lower level (around the back of the building). Other professional services at this location include Horseshoe Valley Dental, Horseshoe Valley Eye Care, and Road to Relief Massage Therapy.

Fees

I want fees to be clear and straightforward, so here's how things break down across each service.

Counselling & Psychotherapy
The hourly rate is $250. This falls within the average range for psychological services in Ontario (OPA, 2024). Sessions are generally 50 minutes, with the remaining 10 minutes reserved for notes and resource-sharing (one hour total). Longer sessions can be booked as needed.

Assessments
Assessment fees vary depending on the type and scope of assessment. Generally, the full cost of a psychological assessment from start to finish is $3,500.

Consultations, Presentations & Workshops
Fees for this work vary widely and are determined collaboratively with the group or organization making the request, with accessibility genuinely in mind. This is an area I care about deeply, and I work hard to find a rate that feels manageable for the community I'm working with.

Type of Support

There are a lot of options when it comes to finding a mental health professional, and it can feel overwhelming to know where to start. Finding the right fit matters.

You may also come across a few different professional titles along the way such as psychiatrist, psychologist, psychotherapist, social worker. It's not always obvious what separates them. Here's the short version:

Psychiatrists are medical doctors. They can diagnose, prescribe medication, and may provide therapy, though many focus primarily on diagnosis and medication management. They usually require a referral and are typically covered by OHIP.

Psychologists complete doctoral-level training and can formally diagnose, conduct psychological assessments, and provide intervention and psychotherapy. Psychologists cannot prescribe medication. Services aren't covered by OHIP, though they're often covered under extended health benefits.

Psychotherapists and social workers provide psychotherapy but don't offer formal diagnoses or prescribe medication. Services aren't covered by OHIP, though they're often covered under extended health benefits.
